My friend Cristian Cambronero has managed to create one of the most influential blogs in Central America, and most certainly the most important independent blog in Costa Rica. Fusil the Chispas has been live for five years now, and it has consolidated as a true alternative news source. It’s been a fascinating process to witness.
A few months ago, Cristian asked four writers, including me, to create Lechemilk, a guest blogger section on the site. Luis Chaves, María Montero, Carla Pravisani and I have published several literary articles. It has been interesting to see the reactions to different types of text, and how this particular audience responds to the things we’re writing. Most of them are opinion pieces, fictionalized, somewhat based in reality.
My pieces have ranged from the issue of same-sex partnership, to a silly article about the conversations I have about Costa Rica, and the latest was about my tendency to fall in love, frequently and profoundly, with random people. All texts are available in Spanish only.
Last time I mentioned Superdemokraticos, the project was just starting. By now, the project is coming to an end.
Turns out, the other superdemokraticos were fantastic writers. I’m amazed at the diversity of experiences and opinions that were brought into the project. All the articles were translated from Spanish to German, and some of them are available in English as well. Click on the question marks to switch languages.

i4d (Information For Development) magazine is a print publication distributed from India, with a global audience in mind. The magazine aims to provide a platform for opinions, research and practice around the ICT4D sector. The website i4d online compliments the print publication with interactive features and up to date information. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some of the editorial and program staff of the magazine, and they do an amazing job by keeping a relevant publishing calendar and a rich rotation of authors, both academics and practitioners.
i4d has published two of my articles in English. The first was entitled “A social movement for freedom of knowledge”, a basic first overview of our research objectives for FLOSS communities in Latin America and the Caribbean. It was included in their October 2004 number. The second one was entitled “Commons in Latin America: Creative, collective and for all”, and it was included in their edition for July 2006, presenting some of our findings in the area of the commons, beyond the research of free software communities.
El libro “Compartir conocimientos para el desarrollo rural“, recoopilado por Sally Burch y publicado por ALAI, contiene varios artículos sobre experiencias de intercambio de conocimientos en América Latina. Mi aporte tiene que ver con el uso de distintos medios (nuevos y viejos) para documentar, apoyar y generar procesos de intercambio. Las experiencias que decidí retomar en el libro son parte del trabajo que hemos hecho en la cooperativa Sulá Batsú en los últimos años. El libro está disponible en formato PDF en Español.
The book “Sharing Knowledge for rural development“, coompilation by Sally Burch and published by ALAI, contains several articles about knowledge sharing experiences in Latin America. My contribution is focused on the use of different media (old and new) to document, support and generate sharing processes. The experiences I talk about in the book are part of the work that Sulá Batsú has been developing in the last years. The book is available in PDF format in Spanish only, for now.
